INFOGRAPHIC

Drawn to Hell.

This is Heironymous Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. One of the world's most admired masterpieces ever created. The Prado Museum in Madrid has commissioned new research using eye-tracking glasses to see where visitors were most visually stimulated. This heat map shows the results of the test. Visitors spent an average of 16 seconds a sq metre studying the left-hand panel, which shows the Garden of Eden, 26 seconds a sq metre studying the eponymous central garden, and 33.2 seconds a sq metre studying the hell panel. As an artist who delighted in the freakish weird and wonderful, it might come as no surprise.
